Ingla contradicts presumed season-ticket upgrade

Catalan sports paper Sport claimed yesterday that Barcelona presidential candidate Marc Ingla and several key members of his candidacy have tried in 2005 to get an upgrade of the season-tickets of themselves and some family members and that former Barcelona vice-president Albert Vicens had organized the whole upgrade for board members.

After several denials yesterday evening and this morning, when among other things Ingla said at a press conference that he already has the same seat for over fourty years, the candidacy put out a press release with more detailed information.

In the note, it is explained that Vicens was never in charge of any relocation of season-tickets, that Ingla and Alfons Godall still have the same seats as before they joined the board in 2003 and that Vicens and Ferran Soriano changed their seats in 2008 through the normal procedure of relocation that is open to all club members.

Godall and Soriano will be vice-presidents Ingla

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that Barcelona first vice-president Alfons Godall will support the candidacy of Barcelona presidential candidate Marc Ingla and will become a vice-president if the latter is elected as president.

Former Barcelona vice-presidents Ferran Soriano and Albert Vicens, who left the board together with Ingla after the vote of no confidence in 2008, will also become vice-presidents if Ingla will be the next president.

Soriano, Vicens and maybe Godall in Ingla team

Catalan television station TV3 claims that former Barcelona marketing and sports vice-president Marc Ingla will head a list that will include two former vice-presidents who left the club with him in 2008 after the vote of no confidence: Ferran Soriano and Albert Vicens.

Vicens, who reportedly thought at the start to stay out of the elections process (read more
here), would have confirmed to Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo that he is already actively taking part in the preparation of the campaign of Ingla. During a meeting on Sunday afternoon at the house of Ingla, some last details about the campaign would have been discussed.

Besides the two ex-directors, Ingla could also get the support of current vice-president Alfons Godall, who withdrew his own candidacy last month (read more
here). Godall and Ingla would currently be holding talks on a collaboration and it might soon be officially announced that Godall will be part of the project.

Catalan sports paper El 9 Esportiu says that it's certain that Godall will join the candidacy of Ingla. Asked about the reports in the media, Godall nevertheless denied on his Facebook page that there would already be a deal: "At this moment, nothing has been confirmed... We will see how everything will evolve!"

Former vice-president Vicens will not take part

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that former Barcelona first vice-president Albert Vicens, who resigned as board member after the vote of no confidence in July 2008, would not take part in the elections.

Despite the fact that former marketing and sports vice-president Marc Ingla, who is likely to run for president in the upcoming elections (read more here), reportedly wants to include Vicens in his board team, the ex-director would have decided not to get involved.

Former vice-president Ingla will run for president

Catalan weekly paper El Triangle claims that former Barcelona marketing and sports vice-president Marc Ingla [picture, on the left] has decided to take part in the elections for president of FC Barcelona, that will be held on Sunday 13 June of this year.

Ingla would take over the project of former Barcelona economic president Ferran Soriano, who announced last week that he would not head a list in the upcoming elections (read more here). Ingla would make an official statement announcing his candidacy in the coming days.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claimed yesterday that Ingla, who is reportedly on vacation in the Alps, was still thinking about a possible candidacy while being in constant contact with former Barcelona first vice-president Albert Vicens.

Although he is aware of the time pressure, Ingla wouldn't have a concrete deadline in mind and the fact that Soriano would agree, or not, to be part of his candidacy as a board member would not be a decisive element in his final decision.

Former vice-president Ingla considering to run

Catalan sports paper Sport claims that former Barcelona marketing and sports vice-president Marc Ingla is considering to run for president in the upcoming elections.

Ingla would over the last months have been working on a candidacy together with former Barcelona economic vice-president Ferran Soriano but now that Soriano has decided not to run for president (read more here), Ingla could take over as number one.

Soriano would have given his approval to this option and Ingla will reportedly make a decion after Easter. Asked if Ingla could take part in the elections, Soriano said in an interview with Catalan television channel TV3 that he doesn't know what Ingla will do but that he certainly has the skills needed.

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that people who supported Soriano first asked former Barcelona first vice-president Albert Vicens to head a list, but Vicens would not be very willing to accept the offer. The group of supporters would now in the coming days try to convince Ingla, who is said to be thinking about the situation.

Soriano preparing candidacy

Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that former Barcelona economic vice-president Ferran Soriano has in the last weeks intensified the preparation of his candidacy ahead of the presidential elections in June.

Soriano would have decided to run for president although the candidacy wouldn't be announced soon. The chairman of Spanair is now reportedly finishing his election program and the composition of his board team and management structure.

Among other things, Soriano would have met with the seven board members who left the club together with him in 2008 (read more here). Of those ex-directors, former vice-presidents Albert Vicens and Marc Ingla would certainly be willing to join his candidacy, others are still considering the options and one of them would not actively take part but give his support to the project.

Soriano would also be open for current board members to become a part of his candidacy although under the condition that Soriano stays the presidential candidate. Catalan sports weekly paper Gol claimed a couple of weeks ago that Soriano has already a deal with the candidacy of current Barcelona first vice-president Alfons Godall.

Of the candidacy of Godall, Soriano would want to add Godall, Barcelona treasurer Xavier Sala i Martín and director Magda Oranich to his team. He would also try to include vice-president Jaume Ferrer and director Alfons Castro in his project. Soriano would not count on vice-presidents Joan Boix, Rafael Yuste and Albert Perrín, nor on directors Josep-Ignasi Macià and Xavier Bagués.

Soriano dines with former board colleagues

Several Catalan media report that former Barcelona economic vice-president Ferran Soriano has on Thursday evening held a dinner at his house in Barcelona to discuss his participation in the elections for president of FC Barcelona in June.

Catalan newspaper El Periódico claims that all seven board members who left the club together with Soriano in 2008 were present: former vice-presidents Albert Vicens and Marc Ingla, and former board members Xavier Cambra, Antoni Rovira, Clàudia Vives-Fierro, Evarist Murtra and Josep Lluís Vilaseca. Catalan sports paper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Murtra didn't take part.

Candidates disapprove Laporta's party behaviour

Barcelona presidential candidates Agustí Benedito and Jaume Guixà have reacted in an interview with Catalan newspaper El Periódico to the pictures published on Tuesday by Madrid newspaper La Gaceta of Barcelona president Joan Laporta celebrating the win over Real Madrid at the Luz de Gas night club in Barcelona last Monday morning.

Benedito told the paper that Laporta "wasn't up to the mark", while Guixà said that "this was his most recent performance, but not the only one. President of Barça is something you are 24/7. He can do what he wants, but he should do it at his place." At a press conference, Guixà later added that he would have celebrated with Catalan cava instead of with champagne.

While former Barcelona director Albert Vicens, who was the first vice-president of the club from 2003 to 2008 (read more here) and could also take part in the elections, said that he "didn't recognize that Laporta", presidential candidate Sandro Rosell told La Gaceta that he preferred "not to comment and to wait until the start of the election campaign".

Former presidential candidate Josep Maria Minguella, who might again run for president next year (read more here), showed his disappointment in an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena Ser about the decision of the Catalan sports papers not to publish the images:

"The press always has to watch public figures like the president of Barça and they should report on their acts, also those that can be criticized like in this case. Maybe their decision could be linked to the fact that an important part of their revenues comes from merchandising that needs the approval of Barça."
